Against All Odds

In an epic story set throughout history hearts are won whilst tides are turned. My mind goes back to one of my all-time favourite films, Against All Odds with Jeff Bridges and a love affair from 1984. He is a professional football player who had been dropped, only to find an incredible woman he cannot resist.

Terry Brogan is an unemployed football player who is hired by a criminal to find his ex-girlfriend who betrayed him. However, when the player finds her, a dangerous relationship of love and betrayal develops between them. The setting is incredible and the romance blossoms.

After a confrontation and struggle between Terry and Sully, Jessie fatally shoots Sully. She wants to flee to avoid jail, but Terry refuses and Jessie quickly abandons him. After disposing of Sully's body, Terry returns to Los Angeles. There he is astonished to learn that Jessie has returned to Jake.

In other words, we live in a world full of deceit, disappointment, and fate. However, our mindset can help us overcome our fears. Finding ourselves disappointed over something that didn't work out the way envisaged is an opportunity to roll up our sleeves. It is a moment to reflect on what went wrong, make changes, and fight back to win. Look forward to those moments of grandeur!

A great example of "against all odds" is the 1980 U.S. Men's Olympic hockey team's victory over the heavily favored Soviet Union team, which was considered a major upset. Other examples include the 2007 New York Giants beating the undefeated New England Patriots, Buster Douglas defeating Mike Tyson, or a person surviving a severe accident or illness to make a full recovery.

It all comes down to attitude and a consistent effort to perform well. Yes, there are losses and failures, however when there is a will there is a way to come back even stronger.
