England Finish Top of Group L After Professional Win Over Panama

Although the scoreline suggested a comfortable evening, England were made to work hard. Panama remained organised and even had the ball in the net late in the match, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. England's defence held firm to record another clean sheet and seal a deserved victory.

The result means England finish top of Group L and will now face one of the tournament's best third-placed teams in the Round of 32. While there is still room for improvement, particularly in the attacking phase, England have shown defensive resilience and consistency throughout the group stage—qualities that could prove vital as the tournament enters its knockout phase.

Croatia Edge Ghana to Claim Second Place

The battle for second place in Group L went right down to the final whistle, with Croatia defeating Ghana 2-1 in a tense and entertaining contest.

Both teams entered the match knowing that victory would almost certainly secure automatic qualification for the knockout stage. Croatia rose to the occasion, taking their chances when it mattered most and holding off a determined Ghanaian comeback.

The victory sees Croatia finish as Group L runners-up, joining England in the Round of 32. Ghana, despite a spirited performance and earning four points during the group stage, finish third. However, with the expanded 48-team World Cup format allowing the eight best third-placed teams to advance, the Black Stars still have a realistic chance of progressing depending on results in the remaining groups.
