There are many premium cars being sold in Brazil, and according to online sources BMW is leading edge in sales. There most sold premium cars in 2024 for example are X1 and 320i. However, BMW have many sporty looking cars that are desirable.

Unfortunately, for me they are out of my reach due to elevated cost which for brand new ones they are in the region of 297 thousand reais for an X1, and 386 thousand reais for a 320i M sport. One used one that if stretched for possibly could be obtained is a BMW Serie 3 328IA GT M SPORT 2.0 TURBO 16V 245CV 5P.

With more than enough speed for Brazilian roads the top speed of the BMW 328i GT is 250 km/h (155 mph). This is an electronically limited speed, meaning the car has the potential to go faster but is restricted by the manufacturer. If you insisted on getting faster speeds then have a top mechanics fiddle around with the engine to bypass BMW’s restriction.

The BMW 328i M Sport 2.0 Turbo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in approximately 6.1 seconds. This is based on factory specifications for the 2016 model. Since 100 mph is roughly 161 km/h, it would take slightly longer than the 0-100 km/h time, but there isn't a specific figure for 0-100 mph available. In essence an expert mechanic could probably make it go erven faster.

At around 135 thousand reais for this 2014 model with less than 50,000 Km it’s an enticing used car to purchase. This pictured one is bullet proof which would be one of James Bond 007’s requirements, quite clearly. I toyed with the idea over the weekend, and then realized that it’s out of my budget right now.

Don’t forget that buying a car like this is only half the story. The cost to maintain a BMW is high, and then when it is bullet proof, the cost of maintenance gets higher due to the extra weight and needing a specialist mechanic to carry out the service needs. Additionally, the insurance for a car of such magnitude would be between R$ 4.700 e R$ 27.197 per year which depends on the year of production according to AI.

It certainly is intriguing for a simple guy like me, and yes, I would like to have it. Writing this blog has helped me see the bigger picture though, and that it is out of my reach.

All the best!
