Politicians on the worldwide stage have been known to mislead nations throughout the generations. The Nazis frequently used propaganda to disguise their political aims and deceive the German and International public. They depicted Germany as the victim of Allied and Jewish aggression to hide their true ideological goals and to justify war and violence against innocent civilians.
The Green Growth project launch a week before the opening of the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (see my blog 26/10/2021) was also another form of publicity stunt to demonstrate the Brazilian government’s commitment to please the public while showing the world that it is a force to be reckoned with, and that its leader is a good example for the values he promotes, avid concern towards climate change and wanting to make the world a better place.
Brazilians have a famous term created by their own people called, ‘Amanha sem falta!’ Tomorrow, for sure which in a nutshell means: they probably won’t do what they have promised. For the Western world which refers to various regions, nations and states, including the majority of Europe, North America, and Australasia it is more likely to be an attitude of my word is my bond.
Where governments are concerned the man at the top could be the persuasive charmer to gain and maintain supporters. Green growth, where are you, wrote Emiliano de Godoi, a Professor of the Civil Engineering School at Federal University in Goiás 24th March, 2022. An account of the coordinated attempt by the Inter-Ministerial Committee of Climate Change to launch Green Growth (CIMV) saying that deforestation will be eliminated by 2028, and that reforestation of eighteen million acres will occur by 2030. The Committee is responsible for highlighting required synopses, projects needed and actions taken toward regional biomes, a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g., forest.
Four months after its enactment and official order issued by legal authority number 10.845/21, and much expectation from the environmental community, the Committee finally met to elaborate the right implementation strategy for Brazil. Those onboard decided to create and approve three new strategic commissions: Brazil’s main commitments and contributions to the climate agreement, then another on the carbon market, and thirdly on green growth.
According to Emiliano, it reinforced the public service adage that when they don’t want to solve anything, a new commission is created. He added that if the same pace is maintained until November 2022, the COP 27 will be held in Egypt, and as such a further eight commissions will be formed.
Concurring with the Terra Brasilis platform developed by the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) there were 430.44km2 with the largest area of deforestation in the Amazon in January. That’s 419% more than the 82.88 km2 recorded in the same period in 2021.
Politically wise, National Congress is discussing taking a more relaxed approach to environmental licensing laws, and the reduction that health and environmental agencies have over the use of pesticides and the usage of indigenous lands for the exploitation of potassium.
This current agenda differs in terms of what the National Green Growth Project is trying to achieve which aims to eliminate illegal deforestation by 2028 and restore and reforest 18 million acres of forest land by 2030.
Emilio went on that in Brazil public environmental policies are very similar to throwing darts. "If a dart is thrown with force, then often the dart misses its target, and likewise in the case of public policies it goes so far that it fades out of the limelight. Only the new throw is remembered. With this in mind, we maintain our tradition of being very good at initiatives and terrible at finishing."
Take care!
